SINT MAARTEN

The Sint-Maarten Carnival, which takes place every year in April, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. It is one of the longest Caribbean carnivals and although it lasts a total of 33 days, most of the festivities are concentrated over a two-week period.

Parades, calypso competitions and Steel Drum bands punctuate the carnival program. Each day there is an event to discover, but the most awaited are the big parade, and the Jouvert, a day of celebration that starts at dawn to the rhythm of soca.

The carnival village, located in Philipsburg, is the heart of the activities. It hosts concerts and some 80 stands where you can taste the island's specialities. The carnival closes with the burning of King Momo, a straw effigy who presides over the festivities from the very first day.
